Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS A HOLISTIC NUTRITIONIST?

A Holistic Nutritionist promotes health from a whole-person perspective. Using nutritional education as a primary tool, holistic nutrition professionals emphasize the building of health by approaching each person as a unique individual and looking "beyond the plate" to address the emotional, physical, and environmental aspects of health.  This requires honoring a clients innate wisdom by working in an empowering and cooperative manner to chart a course to optimal health.

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER HOLISTIC NUTRITIONIST SERVICES?

Most health insurance companies have not yet included Holistic Nutrition Professionals for coverage on Nutrition Counseling.

However, you may inquire to use HSA or FSA accounts for payments, but it is the responsibility of the client to check if it is a qualified expense. Often times it will qualify if requested by a physician.

I would also suggest that when you contact your insurance company, to please request that Holistic Nutrition Services be included on plans in the future. The more people that bring attention to this, the more they may realize there is a demand and respond accordingly.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DOES KATIE VALLEY WELLNESS TAKE?

HOW CAN I WORK WITH YOU?

My practice is 100% virtual, which means I can facilitate sessions through a HIPPA compliant video platform. All forms and assessments must be returned at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment, or it will be subject to rebooking. Learn more about Online Healthcare Resources, here.

WHAT DOES HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE (HAES®) MEAN?

According to the Association for Size Diversity and Health, the Health At Every Size® (HAES®) approach is an alternative to the weight/size-based paradigm upon which much current public health policy is based.

The Health At Every Size® principles are:

  • Accepting and respecting the diversity of body shapes and sizes

  • Recognizing that health and well-being are multi-dimensional and that they include physical, social, spiritual, occupational, emotional, and intellectual aspects

  • Promoting all aspects of health and well-being for people of all sizes

  • Promoting eating in a manner which balances individual nutritional needs, hunger, satiety, appetite, and pleasure

  • Promoting individually appropriate, enjoyable, life-enhancing physical activity, rather than exercise that is focused on a goal of weight loss

As a weight-inclusive practitioner, I am HAES informed, and center my work with clients around a health-focused vs. weight-focused approach to their goals.
