ABOUT ME

About Me:

Hi! My name is Katie. I’m so happy and grateful that you’re here sharing your time and energy with me. 

In addition to my holistic nutrition certification, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Education and have dedicated the past decade to helping others in various health-centered roles, including community outreach and as a Wellness Champion for a major US airline. I am also a Licensed Body Positive Facilitator and provide support in both group and one-on-one settings in order to dispel the myths of diet culture and reinforce a holistic, health-focused approach, instead of a weight focused approach.

 

I began Katie Valley Wellness in 2018 as a way to share my passion with others while providing motivation and support to those on their own health journey. This year, I have also joined forces with Naturopathic Doctor and friend Kimberley O'Brien and I am excited to guide participants through her amazing programs, in addition to my group programs and one-one services.

My Story:

I was a yo-yo dieter. I would jump from one diet to the next- focusing on restricting my calories, weighing my food and beating myself up anytime I got "off track"- which happened often because what I was doing was unsustainable.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My workouts were only as good as the calorie burn goal I set, and anything else "didn't count".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • I was depressed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • I had low self-esteem and poor body image

  • I was anti-social⠀⠀

 

And I wasn't getting the results I desperately tried to achieve.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • I damaged my metabolism 

  • I messed up my digestion⠀

  • I was exhausted all the time⠀⠀

  • I created multiple food sensitivities⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • I was stressed, sad and isolated myself

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This went on for YEARS. It wasn't until I was DESPERATE for a new way to treat my body, that I shifted my mindset. Instead of focusing on ways to DEPRIVE my body- I wanted to know how I could NOURISH it. This mindset shift was LIFE CHANGING.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

That' because people make changes in their life for one of two reasons: Inspiration or desperation.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was finally desperate enough to admit what I was doing was not benefiting me and even more important was not HEALTHY for my body, mind or spirit. I discovered Holistic Nutrition and I learned how to nourish my body through food and movement, regardless of what the scale said.

 

With my training as a Licensed Body Positive Facilitator, it has been made clear that I was a victim of diet culture, and it's my goal to ensure I spread the message of taking care of our bodies, regardless of weight, and dispel the myth that health "looks" a certain way.
